- Hand in hand with the passion for collecting is the thirst for knowledge: history, geography, culture and politics. After all, we are dealing with material culture: thoughts and ideas that take form. So, i've tried to provide a relevant list of books and links. I'm listing only the books i personally own and would buy again if i had to. I've found mistakes in some of these books, but they are an invaluable start. I have also learned that the examples found in books are not always the best. It gets more difficult each year, but in many cases it is still possible to find excellent, if not museum quality, specimens for your own collection...

misc. AFRICA:
Nice selection of African music
African Indigo -- There is a common misconception that the indigo dyestuff is beaten into the fabric to conserve water. In fact, the fabric is dyed in a liquid solution, like any other dye process, but beaten with wooden mallets afterwards, to create a sheen and density in the fabric that repels sand. -- Ruby J. Becker, May '98
